Having carried the names St-Romain de Boursas, then St-Romain en Fronsadey, and St-Romain de Fronsac, it was only in the second half of the XNUMXth century that it took its final name of St-Romain La Virvée, from name of the stream that passes through the village.

The village has been occupied since prehistoric times, cut flints and polished axes attest to this dating. The Gallo-Roman period was also present on the site: brick tomb, funeral urn, various coins and tiles with hooks were brought to light. A tile factory dating from the XNUMXth century is still visible.

St-Romain then suffered invasions by the English, whose garrison was stationed at the Château de Cadillac. The village operates freestone quarries between the 1806th century and the beginning of the XNUMXth century. From the XNUMXth century, the main productions are wine and wheat, cultivated in the palus. Formerly related to the village of Asques, it became administratively independent in XNUMX. Today, the economic activities are viticulture, corn and livestock.
