The origin of the name of the village comes from the Latin Mouillus or from the French mouille, meaning humid, marshy place. The occupation of the Mouillac site does not appear to date back to the Middle Ages.

After 1937, the Town Hall moved to the center of the town, the life of the town was organized around the parish of Saint-Fort and a large farm.
